The press release from the Nobel Foundation states that the 2005 Physics Prize goes to R. J. Glauber, J. L. Hall, and
Theodor W. Hänsch, for work done in the field of quantum optics.
I had the most exciting day yesterday in class when a fluorescent light tube decided to spontaneously set itself on fire, right in the middle of Prof. G’ ’s “and so we come to the dramatic conclusion…” at the end of a somewhat tedious derivation. Talk about mind-blowing.
