I recent came across Laugh Lab, the website devoted to a scientific survey aimed to discover the world’s funniest joke. The winner turned out to involve hunters in an accident. The second place one is a classic Watson and Holmes piece.

While you can read about their results on their website, I wanted to highlight Germany’s funniest joke, which I am sure all conscripts can identify with:

A general noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would pick up any piece of paper he found, frown and say: “That’s not it” and put it down again. This went on for some time, until the general arranged to have the soldier psychologically tested. The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out his discharge from the army. The soldier picked it up, smiled and said: “That’s it.”

About the only thing that gives it away, really, is that it hardly ever is that clear and sunny in Chicago at the same time.
