I had some VIPs over the other day and I made a salad with vinaigrette dressing; it wasn’t an ordinary one either. Extra-virgin olive oil with balsamic vinegar (the real kind that costs $3 a tablespoon), grated orange zest and some white truffle oil. Emulsified by hand until it was all creamy (a pain, but worth it) and sprayed with an atomizer over the usual suspects: Romaine, Boston and iceberg lettuces; kale, and arugula. And then topped off with baked parsley-encrusted croutons made from slightly stale homemade bread. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
The only response I got from that?
“Mmm, not bad.”
Some people are just cows*. How can they live their entire lives with such insensitive tastebuds? Poor things.
I doubt they’ll be swinging by this part of the country anytime soon. Materialistic city-slickers.
*对牛弹琴, to serenade cows.
